If you have a file of new subscribers (such as those obtained from a service like BookSweeps), it’s a good idea to welcome them to your list and potentially offer them a thank-you gift for joining (like a free novella).
What you offer or how you welcome them to your list is up to you, but the goal will likely be to build a positive relationship and entice them to continue to open and click your emails, and potentially buy your book(s).
The easiest way to do this will be to build an automation that triggers when a tag or list is added to a reader profile.
Then, you can upload your file of new subscribers, select the list(s) you want to add them to, and the automation will begin as soon as the import is complete.
Setting up the welcome automation
Go to automations → New automation.
Hit ‘start from scratch’ and select either “List Applied” or “Tag Applied.”
Then, name the automation, and choose the list or tag that, when added to a reader, will trigger the flow. You can also create the new list here or tag here.
Build out the flow with which email(s) you want to send, and how long a delay there should be between emails.
Set the flow to Active.
Triggering the welcome flow
Now that your automation is active, it’s time to add your new subscribers to the flow.
Go to your Readers tab, and hit “Import” in the top right.
Upload your file, map the fields, and importantly, select the list or tag that will trigger your flow. You can also add these subscribers to other lists and tags, but adding them to the trigger of your welcome flow is what will cause them to enter it.
Finish importing the list. The subscribers will be added to the automation as soon as the import is complete.
